Twins Henry & Charles Tebay
at the age of 1 ½ years old,
painted by their mother, Catherine Tebay,
inscribed, signed & dated 1793.

The boys are likely members of the Tebay family of Westmorland.

The inscription on the reverse of the miniature reads:

Sweet Babes,
This miniature likenefs
of my dear Twins, Charles
and Henry Tebay - taken at one Year & half old
August 17th, 1793

Set in a remarkable filagree frame, presumably also Catherine Tebay's work, within a mahogany shadow box. The reverse is hinged to reveal the inscription.

3 ½ inches (8.89 cm) high. Frame: 9 5/8 inches high.
