Set in the original hinged, velvet-lined leather case, the miniature set within an elaborate scrolled ormolu mount, with sanded brass mat. The miniature is signed on the left edge, c durham. The case retains the label of the maker, Miers/The Original Makers of / Ormolu/ Miniature-Frames.
4 3/8 inches (11.1 cm) high.
Cornelius Bevis Durham (1809-1894) who exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Society of British Artists from 1828-1858, was said by Mrs. Foskett to be "...among the higher ranks of those working in the 19th century." Durham spent his professional career in London, where in addition to miniatures, he cut intaglios.
