This is a strong example of this important artist's rare work in watercolor.
Set in an oval giltwood frame, the mat with "G. Engelsheart" [sic]
within a placard. Agnew & Son label with extensive description
on the reverse.
5 7/8 inches (14.8 cm) high. Frame: 11 5/8 inches high.
George Engleheart (1750/5-1829) assuredly deserves is place as one
of the greatest of the British miniaturists, and certainly the most
productive. Trained in the Royal Academy Schools and by Sir Joshua
Reynolds, Engleheart had a long and prolific career, leaving an account
book documenting over
4800 miniatures. He exhibited at the Royal
Academy from 1773-1822. Engleheart's works may be seen in virtually
every major museum collection.
