A young lady by Mme Doucet de Suriny, signed, circa 1795.
Set in an ebonized wood frame with gilt metal mount, signed Mde Suriny on the right side.
2 ½ inches (6.9 cm) in diameter.
Mme J. Doucet de Suriny exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1793-1806. Her most famous portrait, that of Citoyenne Candeille, the lead actress in the Theatré de République, was exhibited at the Artistes Libres in 1791. De Suriny was one of only a handful of 18th century female miniaturists exhibiting at the Salon. Her wonderful works are now exceedingly rare.
