Leopoldine, Countess Apponyi von Nagy-Apponyi (1804-1870)
was the daughter of Georg, Count Apponyi von Nagy-Apponyi (1780-1849)
and his wife, Anna, Countess Zichy von Zich (1780-1866). 2 13/16 inches (7.2 cm) high. Moritz Michael Daffinger (1790-1849) "was
an eminent painter of miniatures who influenced the whole Austrian
school," according
to Schidlof. Daffinger was apprenticed to the Vienna Porcelain Factory,
where he worked until 1812, whilestudying with

In 1824,
the year of this portrait, Leopoldine married Karl von u zu Franckenstein
(1798-1845). 
Füger at the
Academy of Vienna. A favorite of the Court, Daffinger painted most
every member of the Imperial family, including serveral portrait
of the Duke of Reichstadt. Additional sitters included Grand Duke
Nicholas Mikhailowitch, Princess Melanie Metternich, and Baroness
Betty von Rothschild. Daffinger's exquisite works may be seen in
most important museum collections.
